Earlier, the Pokémon Go Mega Evolution feature was introduced back in Pokemon Sun and Moon games. Moreover, it was also available in Pokemon X and Y. Since then, this feature is added in every mainline Pokemon series game. However, will the existing Pokémon be able to Mega Evolve in Pokémon Go? Also, which particular Pokemon belongs to the Pokémon Go Mega Evolution list? Let’s find out.
What is Pokémon Go Mega Evolution?
Introduced in the Pokemon sixth generation game, Mega Evolution allows some rare Pokemons to evolve into a more powerful beast with new wild looks. However, this mega power is temporary for that particular single battle. Note that this feature is only applicable to a few of the Pokemon species. Additionally, you require a Mega Stone associated with that particular Pokemon species. On the other hand, you also require a Key Stone that is present in a Mega Bracelet, Mega Ring, and Z-Ring. For example, to mega evolve Charizard Pokemon, you need Mega Stone named Charizardite. After Mega Evolution, Charizard will become Mega Charizard X. Moreover, it will completely change its appearance and receive a significant stat boost. Besides, it will even achieve a new ability and power. Charizard evolves from a Fire/Fly-type to a Fire/Dragon-type Pokemon. Similarly, Ampharos when mega evolved using Ampharosite changes from Pure Electric to Electric/Dragon-type Pokemon. These Mega Stones allow a Pokemon to reach its final form only if it wears the stone as an accessory. Especially for the Pokemon PC game, this feature works differently. In a Pokemon computer game, the trainer is required to hold the Mega Stone for evolution. Also, the stone disappears once used in a particle Pokemon battle. As soon as the battle completes, the mega stone reappears again. On the contrary, Pokemon Go does not include the Mega Stone, instead, it comes with a new resource called Mega Energy.
How to Mega Evolve Pokemon in Pokemon Go?
Instead of Mega Stone that is used in the Pokemon series games, Pokemon Go requires Mega Energy for evolution. All you need to do is participate in the Mega Raid battles. This special battle is only specific to the mega evolved Pokemon species. Most importantly, if you can defeat your opponent in the Mega Raid, you’ll receive more Mega Energy as a prize. You can use this energy to evolve your own Blastoise. The best thing about this feature in Pokemon Go is that your Pokemon can remain mega-evolved even outside of battle. This is not possible in the other mainline Pokemon games. Moreover, if you set that evolved Pokemon as your Buddy, it can follow you all over the Map. On the other hand, you can use this Pokemon to fight Team Go Rocket. Besides, you can play with friends, battle with gyms and raids. The only downside is that you cannot use them in Pokemon Go League Battles, or to defend Gyms. Additionally, only a single Pokemon can be evolved at a time. If you try to mega evolve another Pokemon, the first one will automatically revert to its original state.
